Dreaming of You ist das letzte Studioalbum der amerikanischen Sängerin Selena. Es erreichte 1995 die Spitze der Billboard 200.

Geschichte

Nach dem Erfolg des spanischsprachigen Albums Amor Prohibido plante die Amerikanerin mit mexikanischen Wurzeln den Durchbruch in den Vereinigten Staaten mit einem englisch eingesungenen Album. Die englischsprachigen Lieder wurden von unter anderem von Diane Warren, David Byrne, Keith Thomas und Tom Snow komponiert.[1]

Das Album enthält außer den englischen Titeln zwei klassische Mariachi-Nummern und das zweisprachige Duett God’s Child (Baila Conmigo) mit David Byrne. Der Song wurde von Michael Kamen für den Film Don Juan DeMarco verwendet, in dem Quintanilla-Perez eine Nebenrolle hatte. Der Rest des Albums besteht aus Remix-Versionen von Selenas lateinamerikanischen Popsongs. Die Sängerin wurde im März 1995, noch während der Produktion, nach einem Streit erschossen.

Rezeption

Stephen Thomas Erlewine von Allmusic vergibt einen Album Pick und meint, dass Selena Balladen genauso gut singen könne wie Popsongs. Er hält das Album für ein „kraftvolles – und berührendes – Vermächtnis ihres Talentes“ („a powerful – and touching – testament to her talents“)[1]

Dreaming of You is the fifth and final studio album by American singer Selena. Released posthumously on July 18, 1995, by EMI Latin and EMI Records, it was an immediate commercial and critical success, debuting atop the United States Billboard 200—the first predominately Spanish-language album to do so. It sold 175,000 copies on its first day of release in the U.S.—a then-record for a female vocalist. With first week sales of 331,000 units, it became the second-highest first-week sales for a female musician since Nielsen Soundscan began monitoring album sales in 1991. Billboard magazine declared it a "historic" event, while Time said the recording elevated Selena's music to a wider audience. It won Album of the Year at the 1996 Tejano Music Awards and Female Pop Album of the Year at the 3rd annual Billboard Latin Music Awards.

Dreaming of You es el quinto y último álbum de estudio de la cantante estadounidense Selena. El álbum fue lanzado póstumamente por primera vez el 18 de julio de 1995 (poco más de tres meses después del asesinato de la artista), y fue re-lanzado, para formar parte de la serie de la colección, 20 Años de Música, el 24 de septiembre de 2002, con temas extras, vídeos musicales, y notas habladas por su familia, amigos, y su antigua banda, bajo el sello EMI Music.[1] El álbum en sí es clasificado como un álbum doble con temas inéditos en inglés y temas en español que se habían publicado previamente antes del lanzamiento del álbum, pero con sonidos mezcla del Caribe, dancehall y el reggae. El álbum incorpora baladas R&B y canciones pop, mientras que el resto del álbum incorpora ritmos latinos.

Dreaming of You (с англ. — «Мечтаю о тебе») — пятый и последний студийный альбом американской певицы Селены, выпущенный посмертно 18 июля 1995 года в США на лейблах EMI Latin и EMI Records. В 1989 году Селена подписала контракт с компанией EMI Latin, после чего Хосе Бехар, руководитель фирмы, запросил для певицы запись кроссоверного альбома. Селена записала три песни на английском языке, однако лейбл отклонил запрос Бехара. В ноябре 1993 года, после победы на «Грэмми», Селена подписала контракт с лейблом SBK Records для подготовки англоязычной пластинки.
