River of Dreams ist das zwölfte und bislang letzte Pop-Studioalbum des US-amerikanischen Musikers Billy Joel.

Entstehung

In seiner Gesamtheit präsentiert sich „River of Dreams“ deutlich ernster als seine Vorgänger, da viele Stücke von Vertrauen, langlebiger Liebe, aber auch Verrat und Missgunst handeln. Gerüchten zufolge nahm der Musiker seine Inspiration bei der Komposition von Stücken wie „All About Soul“ und „The Great Wall of China“ aus den Streitereien mit Frank Weber, seinem ehemaligen Manager und Ex-Schwager, der angeblich versucht haben soll, Geld des Musikers zu unterschlagen, und dies durch dubiose Abrechnungspraktiken zu verschleiern.

Das Cover des Albums wurde von Billy Joels damaliger Ehefrau, dem Ex-Model Christie Brinkley, gestaltet.

River of Dreams presented a more serious tone than found in Joel's previous albums, dealing with issues such as trust and long-lasting love. It was rumored that the themes of trust and betrayal, particularly certain lyrics from the songs "A Minor Variation" and "The Great Wall of China", stem from Joel's legal disputes with his former manager and ex-brother-in-law, Frank Weber, who reportedly embezzled millions of dollars from Joel and used dubious accounting practices to cover it up.[7]
