Songs for the Deaf ist das dritte Studioalbum der kalifornischen Rockband Queens of the Stone Age. Es wurde zwischen März und Juni 2002 in verschiedenen Studios in Kalifornien eingespielt und erschien im August 2002.

Konzeptalbum

Songs for the Deaf ist ein Konzeptalbum, das den Zuhörer auf eine Fahrt von Los Angeles in die Mojave-Wüste mitnimmt. So sind beispielsweise zwischen den Titeln Einspieler von lokalen Radiosendern zu hören, die auf dieser Route liegen. Das Konzept spiegelt sich auch im Artwork wider; so befindet sich im entfalteten Booklet des Covers ein Bild vom Innenraum eines Autos.

Rezensionen

Das Album wurde von Musikkritikern hochgelobt und war auch kommerziell recht erfolgreich.

So gab beispielsweise laut.de mit fünf von fünf volle Punktzahl und konstatierte: „Ein Meisterwerk modernen Adrenalin-Rocks.“.[2] Auch Plattentests.de gab dem Album mit zehn von zehn Punkten volle Punktzahl.[3] Eine weitere positive Rezension vergab Allmusic mit fünf von fünf Punkten.[4]

Des Weiteren erreichte Songs for the Deaf bei einer Leserumfrage der deutschen Zeitschrift Visions, in der die 150 Alben für die Ewigkeit gesucht wurden, den zweiten Platz hinter Nevermind von Nirvana.

Songs for the Deaf is the third studio album by the American rock band Queens of the Stone Age, released on August 27, 2002 by Interscope Records. It features guest musicians including drummer Dave Grohl, and was the last Queens of the Stone Age album to feature bassist Nick Oliveri. Songs for the Deaf is a loose concept album, taking the listener on a drive through the California desert from Los Angeles to Joshua Tree, tuning into radio stations from towns along the way such as Banning and Chino Hills.[5]
