Piano Vibrations, is Rick Wakeman's very first studio album released in 1971 on the Polydor label. This disc, although presented on its release as the keyboardist's first solo album, is not strictly speaking an album by Wakeman, himself denying it on his official website. His contributions were limited to piano performance as a session musician, (he was playing with the band Strawbs at the time). He did not compose any of the pieces on the album since they are interpretations of pieces already known by other composers. The album, produced by John Schroeder was released in 1971 on the Polydor label, after Rick was signed to A&M Records. This same John Schroeder also appears with his orchestra on the album.

Piano Vibrations has been described as “slightly cheesy” but still listenable; which is largely acceptable when comparing this album to Wakeman's later work.
Note that Rick received no royalties on sales; he was paid just £36 for the four sessions it took to record the album. And besides the title of the album, his name does not appear anywhere on the album cover.
The most ironic in this album, is the presence of a semi-professional singer whose name does not appear anywhere on the cover.
This album alternates Pop, Folk rock and Jazz musical pieces. These are covers of Vince Guaraldi (Cast Your Fate to the Wind), Elton John (Take Me To The Pilot, Your Song), Randy Newman Yellow Man, Leon Russell (Delta Lady, Home Sweet Oklahoma), James Taylor (Fire And Rain) and Mason Williams (Classical Gas).
