Several hours later a screenshot of the Butley Priory website, confirming the band had been recording there in June and July also went viral, though was quickly removed.[4]
The Car was recorded primarily in 2021 at Butley Priory in Suffolk, La Frette in Paris, and RAK Studios in London.[5] All tracks were written by Alex Turner, with Jamie Cook also credited on "Sculptures of Anything Goes" and Tom Rowley co-writing "Jet Skis on the Moat" and "Mr Schwartz".

The album's cover artwork was revealed on the same day of the album's announcement.[7] The picture was taken by the band's drummer Matt Helders using a Leica M6 film camera[8] and shows a white Toyota Corolla (E90) parked alone on a rooftop parking lot in Los Angeles.[9][10]
All tracks are written by Alex Turner except where noted. All music is composed by Arctic Monkeys[11].
