"Vibe" was met with positive reviews by music critics. Upon its release, the single appeared below the top 100 of the Sverigetopplistan singles chart at number ten on the Heatseeker chart. Styrke included the song as part of the encore while touring for Sway in the fall of 2018.[1]
Tove Styrke wrote "Vibe" with Elof Loelv and Negin Djafari. The track was produced by Loelv.[2] Originally not included on her third studio album Sway (2018), the song was added to the digital release of the album on 19 October 2018 ahead of the singer' tour in the United Kingdom.[3] Sony Music also released it as a standalone digital single on the same date as the sixth and final single of the album.[4][5] By the time of its release, Styrke revealed she had been working on "Vibe" for the last couple of months.[6] She described it as an "ending but a new beginning at the same time".[7] In an interview with Wonderland, she said "It’s definitely in the same world as the other songs from Sway, but it's got a little bit more heartbreak. And I've been wanting to do a guitar-heavy song for a long time."[7]
Musicaclly, "Vibe" is a two-minute and 54-second electronic pop song.[4][8] It features a dominant guitar instrumentation and the chorus is laden with heavy bass.[7][8] The song's instrumenation is also provided by drums, keyboards, percussion, and a synthesizer.[2] Lyrically, "Vibe" speaks of the end of a relationship that did not work out.[9] The chorus includes the line "I thought we had a vibe".[7] Regarding its theme, Styrke elaborated, "I feel like a lot of the songs on the album are about beginnings, before you know if it's going to work out or not. It was interesting to take it a little bit further into the future of knowing someone, where it actually pans out."[7]
"Vibe" received general praise from music critics. At the time of its release, Andrea Washuus Bundgaard of Gaffa selected the song as one of the "best tracks right now".[8] The writer opined that the "electronic and laid-back" song showcased Styrke's "edge and attitude".[8] Swedish magazine Sonic included the song on its playlist in October 2018.[10] Commercially, the song became the third of Sway's singles, after "On the Low" and "Sway", to miss the top 100 of the Sverigetopplistan singles chart.[11] The single debuted and peaked below the top 100 at number ten on the Heatseeker chart on 26 October 2018.[12]
