Autour de l'album

Apostrophe fut entièrement écrit et composé pour raconter musicalement l'histoire du film Nanouk l'Esquimau (1922) de Robert Flaherty. Le morceau Uncle Remus doit son titre au personnage du même nom, une représentation raciste et stéréotypée des Afro-Américains très connue aux États-Unis, notamment par le film Mélodie du Sud de Walt Disney. Plusieurs années après des avancées majeurs dans la déségrégation, Frank Zappa y propose une réflexion sur le chemin qu'il reste à faire[2].

Parodie

La chanson Stink-Foot a été parodiée dans la bande dessinée française de Solé, Dister, et Gotlib, Pop et Rock et Colégram, sous le titre Panard'Shlingage.

Apostrophe (’) ist ein Musikalbum von Frank Zappa, das am 22. April 1974 sowohl in Stereo- als auch in Quadrofonie veröffentlicht wurde. Eine editierte Version des einleitenden Stücks Don’t Eat the Yellow Snow war Zappas erster kommerzieller Single-Erfolg, der es bis auf Platz 86 in den Single-Charts brachte. Das Album erreichte Platz 10 auf den Billboard-Charts und erhielt am 7. März 1976 eine Goldene Schallplatte.[1]

Apostrophe (') is the fifth solo studio album and eighteenth in total by Frank Zappa, released in March 1974[1] in both stereo and quadraphonic formats. An edited version of its lead-off track, "Don't Eat the Yellow Snow", was the first of Zappa's three Billboard Top 100 hits, ultimately peaking at number 86. The album itself became the biggest commercial success of Zappa's career, reaching number 10 on the US Billboard 200.
