A.W.O.L. è il quinto album in studio del rapper statunitense AZ, pubblicato il 6 settembre 2005 dalla Quiet Money. Il titolo è l'acronimo del termine militare «Absent Without Official Leave», letteralmente «assente senza permesso ufficiale»: il riferimento che fa AZ è tra sé stesso e la scena hip hop.[2] Le tre tracce finali sono brani di Final Call (The Lost Tapes), album registrato in questo periodo poi trapelato su internet:[3] Final Call sarà pubblicato anni dopo sotto forma di mixtape.

A.W.O.L. ottiene perlopiù recensioni positive e dimostra di aver avuto un ottimo impatto a livello underground,[5][8] deficitando ancora nelle vendite.[5][10] Il progetto è descritto come «silenziosamente eccellente» e le qualità del rapper sono equiparate a quelle di Nas.[1][2] Il disco presenta ottimi schemi metrici multi sillabici e si rivela piuttosto coerente,[5][8][9][10] nonostante qualche traccia da club mal riuscita stoni con il resto,[3][5] dimostrando che col passare degli anni l'abilità di narratore di AZ è rimasta intaccata.[2][5][7][8][9] In questo modo, il rapper ha consolidato la propria posizione all'interno del genere hip hop.[2][5][8][9]

A.W.O.L. is the fifth studio album by rapper AZ, released on September 6, 2005. It was recorded after Final Call, which AZ declined to release because his label had pushed its release back two months—according to him, they were also the source of its early leak to the press and the internet. Garnering critical praise with production from highly regarded New York underground acts such as DJ Premier, Buckwild, and DipSet production duo the Heatmakerz, the rapper abandoned his previously money-oriented subject matter, stating that he "wanted it to be all street.[8] A.W.O.L. is the first album AZ released on his own Quiet Money Records imprint. A.W.O.L. 1.5 was released several months later, which included a bonus disc featuring a cappella and instrumental versions to the songs on A.W.O.L..
