Il brano venne originariamente realizzato e pubblicato all'interno dell'album di debutto Herzeleid del 1995, pur non venendo estratto come singolo all'epoca. Soltanto dopo circa sei anni Asche zu Asche è stato distribuito come singolo per il solo mercato australiano in occasione dell'annuale festival Big Day Out, contenente come b-side cinque brani registrati dal vivo a Berlino (lo stesso concerto immortalato in Live aus Berlin).

Asche zu Asche ist ein Lied der deutschen Neue-Deutsche-Härte-Band Rammstein. Es wurde von Rammstein geschrieben und von Jacob Hellner sowie Carl-Michael Herlöffson produziert. Der Song erschien ursprünglich am 24. September 1995 auf ihrem ersten Studioalbum Herzeleid. Am 30. August 1999 wurde Asche zu Asche als Promo-Single veröffentlicht, um das zeitgleich erschienene Livealbum Live aus Berlin zu bewerben. Zudem wurde das Lied am 15. Januar 2001 ausschließlich in Australien als Single zur zugehörigen Rammstein-Tour ausgekoppelt.

Asche zu Asche (German: [ˈaʃə tsuː ˈʔaʃə]; "Ashes to Ashes") is a song by German Neue Deutsche Härte band Rammstein. It was released in January 2001, as the fourth single from their album Herzeleid. The single is also included as a bonus disc in the re-released "Australian Tour Edition" of Sehnsucht. This release contains the 1995 album version of the song, as well as five live tracks taken from Live aus Berlin. It was released exclusively in Australia, as a promotion for the Big Day Out festival (2001), for which Rammstein were a headlining act.
