The recording of the album finished in April 2006 and it was released on September 12 in the UK and September 12, 2006 in North America through Reprise Records. Blood Mountain es el tercer álbum de Mastodon, banda norteamericana de metal, que salió a la venta en Europa el 11 de septiembre de 2006 y en Estados Unidos el día siguiente. En declaraciones a la prensa del bajista Troy Sanders, el disco es un álbum conceptual "sobre todas aquellas cosas que te pueden pasar cuando escalas una montaña y te pierdes.
