In contrasto al primo album del gruppo, nel quale vennero unite sonorità punk rock e hip hop, Broke incorpora anche nuove influenze musicali provenienti dal rock classico e dalla world music[2] e presenta collaborazioni con alcuni artisti provenienti dalla scena heavy metal, quali East Bay Ray (chitarrista dei Dead Kennedys), nel brano Waiting to Die, e Serj Tankian (voce dei System of a Down) e Morgan Lander dei Kittie che hanno partecipato al brano Feel Good.[2][3]

Broke is the second studio album by American rock band Hed PE. Released on August 22, 2000, the album expanded the band's sound to incorporate classic rock and world music influences. It peaked at #63 on the Billboard 200, and features the band's best known single, "Bartender", which peaked at #23 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks chart and at #27 on the Modern Rock Tracks chart, and appeared on the retrospectives The Best of Hed Planet Earth and Major Pain 2 Indee Freedom: The Best of Hed P.E. The album sold over 250,000 copies.[8]
