È stato con molta probabilità il primo singolo nella storia della musica a venire stampato su compact disc[5].


Il brano


Il testo del brano è stato ispirato dalle tristi vicende della Guerra delle Falkland che si era all'epoca recentemente consumata[6]. Il videoclip alterna le immagini della band con alcuni disegni di soldati in azione durante la prima guerra mondiale[6]. La canzone appare all'interno del film di spionaggio Spy Game (2001) quando il personaggio di Robert Redford incontra Brad Pitt dopo la Guerra del Vietnam[6] e nella puntata finale della serie The Americans, quando Stan Beeman scopre l'inganno dei Jennings, ma che segna anche l'inizio della fine della guerra fredda con le trattative per START (acronimo dell'espressione inglese Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty). L'episodio finale della seconda stagione della serie TV The West Wing, Le Due Cattedrali, si conclude con il brano dei Dire Straits, uno dei pochi episodi della serie a includere musiche non originali.

Brothers in Arms (Englisch für „Waffenbrüder“) ist ein Rocksong der britischen Band Dire Straits aus dem Jahr 1985, der von Mark Knopfler geschrieben und in Kooperation mit Neil Dorfsman produziert wurde.[2] Er erschien auf dem gleichnamigen Album und ist in gis-Moll komponiert.

"Brothers in Arms" is a ballad by British rock band Dire Straits, the closing track on their fifth studio album of the same name, released on 18 October 1985. It was written in 1982, the year of Britain's involvement in the Falklands War. In 2007, the 25th anniversary of the war, Mark Knopfler recorded a new version of the song at Abbey Road Studios to raise funds for British veterans who he said "are still suffering from the effects of that conflict."[1] "Brothers in Arms" has become a favourite at military funerals.[2]
