Passato in radio per la prima volta in radio urban e urban AC nell'agosto 2017,[12] il singolo è entrato ufficialmente in rotazione radiofonica partire dal 19 settembre dello stesso anno,[13] data in cui è stato commercializzato anche per il download digitale.[14]


Video musicale


Il video, diretto da Christian Breslauer, è stato reso disponibile a sorpresa il 25 novembre 2021 in concomitanza con il quinto anniversario dalla pubblicazione dell'album di provenienza.[15] Rappresenta un omaggio alla serie televisiva Stranger Things e al film E.T. l'extra-terrestre (1982).[16]

Successo commerciale


Die for You è inizialmente entrato nella Billboard Hot 100 statunitense al 43º posto nella settimana successiva alla pubblicazione di Starboy nel dicembre 2016.[18] In seguito alla pubblicazione del video nel novembre 2021 ha riacquisito popolarità grazie alla piattaforma TikTok, rientrando così nella Hot 100 dove ha varcato per la prima volta la top 40 nell'ottobre 2022 grazie a 8,1 milioni di stream, 9,5 milioni di audience radiofonica e 500 download digitali.[19]

"Die for You" is a song by Canadian singer the Weeknd, from his third studio album Starboy (2016). The song was written by the Weeknd, Doc McKinney, Cirkut, Prince 85, Cashmere Cat, Dylan Wiggins, and Billy Walsh, while being produced by the former five. It was one of the tracks of Starboy to be featured in the short film Mania.[2][3] It received early airplay from urban and urban AC radio in August 2017,[4] and was sent rhythmic contemporary radio on September 19 as the album's fifth single in the United States.[5][6] The song was also scheduled to be sent to US contemporary hit radio on December 5, however its release to the format in the country was cancelled for unknown reasons.[7] However, it later impacted the radio format in 2022 after its steady resurgence online, with the song additionally achieving a new peak within the top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100 nearly six years after its original peak of 43.
