Il disco


La band di Seattle propone un album che si assesta come continuazione del precedente Superunknown, alimentando però la voce di Chris Cornell con sonorità decisamente più acide e riflessive. La chitarra di Kim Thayil raggiunge livelli di complessità alienanti, mentre Matt Cameron propone uno stile innovativo, che alterna momenti molto pesanti a momenti tecnici in cui fa uso di cambi di tempo e controtempi. Tra i pezzi più apprezzati di questo album si ricordano Blow Up the Outside World, Burden in My Hand e Pretty Noose, ma anche tra le meno note Tighter & Tighter, Overfloater e Zero Chance.

Down on the Upside ist das fünfte Studioalbum der Grunge-Band Soundgarden. Es wurde im Mai 1996 durch A&M Records veröffentlicht. Es war für viele Jahre – bis zur Veröffentlichung von King Animal 2012 – das letzte Studioalbum der Band. Zwar erlangte es in den USA Platinstatus, doch insgesamt kam es nicht an den Erfolg des Vorgängers Superunknown heran.

Down on the Upside is the fifth studio album by the American rock band Soundgarden, released on May 21, 1996, through A&M Records. Following a worldwide tour in support of its previous album, Superunknown (1994), Soundgarden commenced work on a new album. Self-produced by the band, the music on the album was notably less heavy and dark than the group's preceding albums and featured the band experimenting with new sounds.
