Nonostante i grandi successi ottenuti gli anni precedenti, Angus e Malcolm Young decisero di dare una sferzata alla situazione che si era creata; licenziarono praticamente quasi tutto lo staff, il manager e il produttore Robert John "Mutt" Lange a cui era imputato il cambio del sound ed un leggero ammorbidimento del suono. L'album è stato inoltre l'ultimo registrato con il batterista Phil Rudd, il quale lasciò la formazione e fu rimpiazzato da Simon Wright. Rudd si sarebbe riunito agli AC/DC nel 1994 per registrare l'album Ballbreaker.

Decisero di autoprodurre l'album, il risultato fu un parziale insuccesso: infatti l'album fu distribuito peggio rispetto agli album precedenti e non ottenne il successo che forse meritava. Inoltre durante il tour che seguì l'uscita dell'album non furono incluse tracce attese come Bedlam in Belgium.[3]

Flick of the Switch (engl. für „Der Knopfdruck“) ist das achte international veröffentlichte Studioalbum der australischen Hard-Rock-Band AC/DC. Es wurde im April 1983, kurz nach ihrer Europa-Tour, aufgenommen. Das Album kam am 15. August 1983 in den USA auf den Markt. 2003 wurde es im Rahmen der AC/DC-Remasters-Serie wiederveröffentlicht.

Flick of the Switch is the ninth studio album by Australian hard rock band AC/DC. The album was deemed a commercial disappointment after it failed to match the sales figures of the band's two previous releases, 1980's Back in Black and 1981's For Those About to Rock, and its release represented the beginning of the band's commercial decline. Despite this, opinions of Flick of the Switch have been quite positive in the years since its release, and the album has often been mentioned as one of the best releases of 1983.[1] The third AC/DC album to feature lead vocalist Brian Johnson, the album is also the last to feature drummer Phil Rudd before his return on Ballbreaker (1995). The album was re-released in 2003 as part of the AC/DC Remasters series.
