Tre tracce sono nuove registrazioni di brani provenienti dall'EP Out of the Night pubblicato dal gruppo due anni prima. Lo stile dell'album è abbastanza distante da quella che sarà la proposta musicale che porterà al successo i Great White con gli album successivi, in quanto qui è presente un suono maggiormente orientato all'heavy metal puro piuttosto che il caratteristico sound del gruppo tinto di blues rock.[1] L'insuccesso di vendite ottenuto dal disco, con il conseguente licenziamento da parte della EMI, spingerà la band a modificare e caratterizzare il proprio stile negli anni a venire.[2]

Great White is the first full-length album by the American rock band Great White. Three tracks are taken from the band's previous EP, albeit in re-recorded versions. The musical style of this album is very different from the following highly successful releases of Great White, as they display here a more hard-driving metal sound as opposed to their later, blues-infused rock sound.[5] EMI America judged the album a disaster[6] and Great White was dropped. This led to a rethink by the band, and they became less heavy, introducing a tame hard rock sound for later albums.[6]
