Descrizione

Il titolo si riferisce in modo scherzoso a Pull Me Under, prima ed unica hit radiofonica del gruppo (e per questa motivazione evidenziata in giallo nel retro dell'album), a testimonianza di come il gruppo sia riuscito in oltre 20 anni di carriera a creare un vasto seguito di fan senza alcun aiuto da parte delle radio o di MTV.[1] La raccolta si divide in due parti: la prima, denominata The Dark Side, racchiude i brani più pesanti del gruppo, mentre la seconda parte, denominata The Light Side, racchiude quelli più melodici.[1] Inoltre, sono presenti alcune versioni alternative o radiofoniche inserite originariamente nei singoli commerciali e promozionali del gruppo, come ad esempio Lie, Through Her Eyes, Home e Misunderstood.[1]

La raccolta presenta anche tre brani provenienti da Images and Words remixati da Kevin Sherley, in modo da fornir loro sonorità più simili al resto della produzione dei Dream Theater che non a quelle più tipiche degli anni ottanta, a cui il disco si rifaceva.[1]

Greatest Hit (...And 21 Other Pretty Cool Songs) is a compilation album by American progressive metal band Dream Theater released in Australia on March 29, 2008, and by Rhino Records in the United States on April 1.[3] The title alludes to their only top 10 radio hit, "Pull Me Under". It features three songs from their breakthrough album Images and Words remixed by Kevin Shirley: "Pull Me Under", "Take the Time", and "Another Day". It also features the song "To Live Forever", an Awake-era re-recording of the song from the Images and Words sessions (featured as a B-side of the single "Lie"), which was previously unreleased on a full-length album. Several single edits of popular Dream Theater songs are also featured on this compilation.
