[de] Thelonious Monk (Album)

Thelonious Monk (auch Thelonious Monk with Sonny Rollins and Frank Foster bzw. Thelonious Monk Quintet (PRLP 180) erschienen waren. Zusammen veröffentlichte Prestige die Aufnahmen 1956 als Langspielplatte unter dem Titel Thelonious Monk (LP 7053),[1] mit verändertem Cover- und Schriftdesign von Andy Warhol und seiner Mutter Julia Warhola (1891–1971) als MONK (PRLP 7053)[2] und ab 1964 auch als The Golden Monk (PR 7363).[3] Das Album erschien ab 1996 auch als Compact Disc.

[en] Monk (1956 album)

Monk (Prestige PRLP 7053)[3] is a 1956 compilation album by jazz pianist and composer Thelonious Monk, featuring material recorded from 1953 to 1954 for the Prestige label and performed by Monk with two quintets, one featuring Julius Watkins, Sonny Rollins, Percy Heath, and Willie Jones and one featuring Ray Copeland, Frank Foster, Curly Russell, and Art Blakey.[4] It was originally titled both Thelonious Monk [on its 1956 cover][5] and Thelonious Monk Quintets [on its labels][6][better source needed] (PRLP 7053). Over the following decade, it was also re-released as Wee See (PRLP 7245)[7] and The Golden Monk (PRST 7363)[8] The most common cover art (with the Monk title), is 1958 revision, designed by Reid Miles.[9][10][better source needed]
