Il brano è stato scritto da Sia in collaborazione con il produttore Greg Kurstin e ha visto la partecipazione vocale del rapper statunitense Kendrick Lamar. Gil Kaufman di Billboard ha definito The Greatest un «edificante brano poppeggiante con una sottile atmosfera isolana».[18]


Video musicale


Il videoclip, uscito in concomitanza con il singolo,[19] è stato diretto da Sia e Daniel Askill e presentato sul canale Vevo dell'artista.[20] Per le coreografie di Ryan Heffington danzano 49 ballerini, tra cui spicca ancora una volta la ballerina Maddie Ziegler. Quest'ultima, presentata in alcuni fotogrammi da sola, triste e piangente, richiama insieme al numero dei ballerini, alle scenografie cupe ed ai sordi colpi di sparo, alla commemorazione delle vittime della strage di Orlando.[21]

"The Greatest" is a song recorded by Australian singer and songwriter Sia for the deluxe edition of her seventh studio album, This Is Acting (2016). Being made available for digital consumption as the record's third single on 6 September 2016 through Monkey Puzzle and RCA Records, "The Greatest" features a new part with the American rapper Kendrick Lamar. The electropop song was written by Sia, Greg Kurstin, and Lamar while production was only handled by Kurstin. The solo version was written only by the former two. The song was originally intended to be in a new album called We Are Your Children.[1]

El sencillo fue lanzado al mercado musical el 6 de septiembre de 2016 por RCA Records y Monkey Puzzle Records como el primer avance de dicho álbum.
