Violent by Design è il secondo album del gruppo musicale hip hop statunitense Jedi Mind Tricks, pubblicato il 3 ottobre 2000 e distribuito inizialmente da Superegular. Nel 2003 la Babygrande Records, etichetta del gruppo, ripubblica l'album negli USA aggiungendo tre tracce bonus. L'anno seguente, la stessa label, distribuisce nuovamente il prodotto per i mercati di Stati Uniti e Germania, inserendo, oltre ai brani bonus, anche due DVD.

Vinnie Paz e Stoupe reclutano il rapper di Camden (New Jersey) Jus Allah che diviene, non ufficialmente, il terzo membro del gruppo.[1] Poco dopo l'uscita del disco, Jus Allah, non accreditato per il lavoro svolto nell'album, lascia il gruppo per motivi sconosciuti. Il disco è registrato e missato nella camera da letto di Stoupe.[2]

L'album è accolto con giudizi favorevoli da parte della critica specializzata. Dean Carlson di AllMusic nota come siano cambiati gli argomenti rispetto all'album precedente: il gruppo passa da temi metafisici ad altri maggiormente socio-politici.[1] Carlson afferma che l'interludio The Prophecy «assomiglia al cugino hip hop del jazz oscuro suonato nella scena in discoteca nel [film] Fuoco cammina con me di David Lynch.»[1] Tom Doggett recensisce positivamente l'album per RapReviews, assegnando il punteggio perfetto alla produzione di Stoupe, elogiata più volte.[3] Doggett scrive che «Vinnie Paz e Jus Allah hanno essenzialmente inventato un nuovo stile di rapping»,[3] aggiungendo che Stoupe, influenzato dalla «leggenda» RZA,[3] crea un nuovo metodo d'arte hip hop[3] e la sua opera omnia in Violent by Design ne lancia la carriera.[3] Doggett conclude che l'album «non può essere ignorato. Violent by Design is the second album by underground hip hop group Jedi Mind Tricks. Despite never reaching any Billboard album chart, the album sold 50,000 copies in its first week on shelves.[6] The album was originally released on JMT's self-run Superegular Records on October 3, 2000. JMT's previous label, Babygrande Records, re-released the album on May 25, 2004. The original vinyl release featured twenty tracks,[7] while the original CD release featured two extra tracks: the "Heavenly Divine Remix", originally released on the B-Side to JMT's "Heavenly Divine" single, and "War Ensemble", originally released as the B-Side of the Army of the Pharaohs Five Perfect Exertions EP.[8] Babygrande's Deluxe Edition featured three more bonus tracks: "Untitled", "Retaliation Remix" and "Blood Runs Cold", the latter two originally featured on the "Retaliation" single.[9] The Deluxe Edition also included a bonus DVD, featuring a video scrapbook from their Visions of Gandhi tour, and the music video for the group's 1997 track "I Who Have Nothing".
