Bolbbalgan4 (Korean: 볼빨간 사춘기; RR: Bolbbalgan Sachungi), also known as BOL4[1] or Blushing Youth, is a South Korean musical act formed by Shofar Music in 2016. They appeared on Superstar K6 in 2014 before signing a contract with their current agency. BOL4 was originally a duo consisting of Ahn Ji-young and Woo Ji-yoon.[2] They debuted with the single "Fight Day" from the mini-album Red Ickle on April 22, 2016. The first syllable of the Korean word sachungi "puberty" is pronounced the same as the Sino-Korean numeral four (sa), and accordingly the group name is sometimes shortened to BOL4.

The duo went on a temporary hiatus due to Ahn's music classes requirements in the first half of 2018.[3] Bolbbalgan4 signed with King Records[4] and debuted in Japan on June 5, 2019, with the mini-album Red Planet (Japan Edition).[5][6][7]

On April 2, 2020, Shofar Music announced that Woo Ji-yoon had left the duo, and Ahn Ji-young will continue to promote as Bolbbalgan4.[8]


Formation


Jiyoung and Jiyoon were both raised in Yeongju, North Gyeongsang Province, and were classmates. They had previously competed SuperStarK6 in 2014. Since they were young they had dreamed of becoming singers. The name of their duo was built on the grounds that they wanted to make the kind of pure, honest music that can only be found in adolescence. Jiyoon portrays the "blushing" part of the name because she is often shy, while Jiyoung portrays "youth" because she acts like an adolescent girl.[9]

Bolbbalgan4 (en hangul: 볼빨간 사춘기), también conocido como BOL4 o Blushing Youth y pronunciado como Bolbbalgan Sachungi) es un acto musical surcoreano formado por Shofar Music en 2016. Aparecieron en el programa de talentos Superstar K6 en 2014 antes de firmar un contrato con su agencia actual. Originalmente siendo un dúo, su alineación original constaba de Ahn Ji-young y Woo Ji-yoon.[2] Debutaron el 22 de abril de 2016, con el sencillo «Fight Day» del EP Red Ickle. El dúo pasó por un receso temporal durante la primera mitad de 2018 debido a los requisitos de las clases musicales de Ji-Young.[3] El 5 de junio de 2019, el dúo realizó su debut en el mercado discográfico japonés con el lanzamiento del EP Red Planet (Edición Japonesa).[4][5][6][7] El 2 de abril de 2020, Shofar Music anunció que Ji-yoon abandonó el grupo y Ji-young continuó promocionando bajo el nombre «BOL4» como solista.[8]

Bolbbalgan4 (кор. 볼빨간 사춘기; стилиризуется как BOL4; Польппальган сачхунги, также известны как Red Cheek Puberty, Румяные подростки) — южнокорейский дуэт, образованный Ан Чжи Ён и У Чжи Юн в 2016 году. 2 апреля 2020 года Shofar Music объявил, что У Чжиюн покидает BOL4 и само агентство. С этого времени Ан Чжиён будет продвигаться под названием BOL4, в качестве сольного исполнителя.[1][2]
