Sopor Aeternus & the Ensemble of Shadows (Latin: sopor aeternus "eternal slumber";[6][7] also referred to or stylized as Sopor Aeternus or Sopor)[1] is a darkwave musical project based in Frankfurt,[2] founded in 1989 by a multidiciplinary artist who uses the pseudonym "Anna-Varney Cantodea".[1][8]

Sopor Aeternus & The Ensemble of Shadows es un proyecto musical de género Darkwave, fundado y liderado por un Artista multidiciplinario del cual se desconoce cualquier dato biográfico hasta la fecha. El nombre de su personaje "Varney" se cree está inspirado en la novela de vampiros Varney the Vampire or the Feast of Blood ("Varney el vampiro o el festín de sangre"), de 1847, por la canción titulada "The Feast of Blood", que aparece en su primer demo titulado "Es reiten die Toten so schnell" de 1988 y posteriormente relanzado en el 2003.

Sopor Aeternus & The Ensemble of Shadows (с лат. — «Вечный сон» и с англ. — «Ансамбль теней») — немецкий музыкальный проект, исполняющий музыку в жанре дарквейв. Сформирован в 1989 году Анной-Варни Кантодеа. Кроме Анны-Варни, на записях участвуют сессионные музыканты. В разное время в музыке сочетались элементы дарквейва, этнических или средневековых мотивов, неоклассики и электроники. В своих визуальных образах использует элементы танца буто[1].
