The Plastic People of the Universe, a volte conosciuti con l'acronimo PPU, è un gruppo rock ceco originario di Praga. È stato il principale rappresentante della cultura underground della capitale cecoslovacca fiorita tra il 1969 ed il 1989,[1] che contestò fortemente il regime comunista cecoslovacco. A causa dell'approccio anticonformista sul tema politico, il gruppo fu osteggiato dal regime locale subendo anche arresti di alcuni suoi componenti.[2] La band, scioltasi nel 1988 e riformatasi nel 1997, ha proseguito l'attività anche dopo la morte del suo fondatore e principale compositore, il bassista Milan "Mejla" Hlavsa, avvenuta nel 2001.

The Plastic People of the Universe (PPU) is a Czech rock band from Prague. They are considered to be the foremost representatives of Prague's underground culture (1968–1989), which went against the grain of Czechoslovakia's Communist regime. Due to their non-conformism, members of the band often suffered serious repercussions, including arrests and prosecution. The group continues to perform, despite the death of its founder, main composer, and bassist, Milan "Mejla" Hlavsa, in 2001.
