Early life and education
Rocha was born in Rivera, Uruguay. His father worked as an immigration officer and his mother as a pastry chef. He started studying piano when he was eight and discovered that music had a huge impact in his life. He remembers hearing the radio at home everyday and having long chats about music with his older brother, who played the harp and the guitar. Despite being passionate about music, his family was not on board with Rocha choosing music as a profession, however, he believed in his passion and that's how he started singing lessons in secret and found out his dream was to become a lyrical singer.
Rocha studied piano, choral and orchestra conducting at the Montevideo University School of Music. After obtaining a scholarship offered by the Chamangá Foundation for vocational youth, he began his vocal technique studies with Alba Tonelli. He later studied singing with Beatriz Pazos and Raquel Pierotti. In 2008 he moved to Italy to perfect himself with the tenor Salvatore Fisichella and the Rossinian tenor Rockwell Blake.
He is the winner of the contests: 51º Concurso de Juventudes musicales del Uruguay, Maria Callas in Sao Paolo (Brazil), Giulio Neri in Siena (Italy) and Primo Palcoscenico in Cesena (Italy) where he debuted the role of Almaviva in Il barbiere di Siviglia by Rossini.
