All for You ist das siebte Studioalbum von Janet Jackson, das im April 2001 bei Virgin Records erschien. Nach The Velvet Rope, das Themen wie etwa häusliche Gewalt ansprach, ging All for You wieder mehr in eine pop-betontere Richtung. Das Billboard-Magazin führte All for You auf Platz 141 der Alben des Jahrzehnts.[1]

Geschichte

Eine Woche, bevor das Album herauskam, wurde von MTV ein Special mit dem Titel MTV Icon für Janet Jackson gesendet. Am Ende spielte Jackson bereits ihr neues Stück All for You.[2] Doesn't Really Matter war bereits im Mai 2000 als Single veröffentlicht worden. Es gehörte zum Soundtrack von Familie Klumps und der verrückte Professor. All for You wurde zuerst ohne Parental-Advisory-Aufkleber veröffentlicht. Allerdings wurde bei der zweiten Pressung ein solcher angebracht, und auch eine sogenannte "Clean"-Ausgabe erschien, bei der das Stück Would You Mind fehlte. In Singapur wurde das Album ganz verboten.[3] Auf All for You sang Jackson zu Themen wie Scheidung und Sexualität.[4] Das Album wurde erneut von dem bekannten Produktionsteam Jimmy Jam und Terry Lewis produziert, mit dem sie schon seit Control zusammengearbeitet hatte.

Fünf Singles wurden ausgekoppelt, darunter All for You und Someone to Call My Lover. Come On Get Up erschien 2002 nur in Japan.

Kritik

Die Webseite Allmusic nannte das Album "schwül" und "überlang". Es wäre besser gewesen, wenn die Platte entspannter gewesen wäre und Jackson sich auf großartige Songs konzentriert hätte.[4]

All for You is the seventh studio album by American singer Janet Jackson. It was released on April 24, 2001, by Virgin Records. The album's development and theme were rooted in Jackson's separation from husband René Elizondo Jr. as she attempted to move on. Contrary to The Velvet Rope, which saw Jackson tackling darker themes such as domestic violence and depression, All for You showcased a mix of upbeat dance-pop and slow R&B sounds, incorporating rock, disco, and funk, as well as soft rock and East Asian music. Its lyrics focus on passion, romance, and intercourse, while also discussing themes of betrayal and deceit. The explicit language and sexual content of several songs sparked controversy, causing the album to be banned in several countries.
