Money for Nothing ist eine Kompilation der britischen Rockband Dire Straits. Sie erschien im Herbst 1988 bei Phonogram, Vertigo Records und Warner Bros. Records.

Entstehung und Veröffentlichung

Nach der Tour zum Erfolgsalbum Brothers in Arms verschwand die Band plötzlich von der Bildfläche und es gab Gerüchte um eine Auflösung.

Erst im Juni 1988 meldeten sich die Dire Straits für ein Konzert zum 70. Geburtstag von Nelson Mandela zurück. Im Oktober des Jahres kam eine Best-of-Kompilation mit (z. T. neu gemischten oder gekürzten) Stücken von allen bisherigen Veröffentlichungen auf den Markt. Sie wurde nach der Hitsingle Money for Nothing benannt und wurde selbst ein Charterfolg.
