Afrodisíaco (English: Aphrodisiac) is the debut studio album by Puerto Rican singer Rauw Alejandro, released on November 13, 2020 through Sony Music Latin and Duars Entertainment.[1] The album was produced by Alejandro himself, Eydren con el Ritmo, Caleb Calloway, Kenobi, Colla, Rosalía, Sky Rompiendo, Dimelo Flow, The Martinez Brothers, Mr. NaisGai and Tainy, among others, and features collaborations with reggaeton and hip hop artists like Anuel AA, J Balvin, Trippie Redd, Wisin & Yandel, Zion, Lennox, Arcángel, Myke Towers, Farruko, Sech and Camilo.[2] The album comprises sixteen songs, with most of them having a feature from an artist, the album also includes a new version of the 2004 song "Soy una Gárgola" by Randy and Arcángel. It was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Música Urbana Album.

Background


The album was announced through Alejandro's Twitter account, where he shared the release date, cover art and tracklist.[3] Following the release of the album, Alejandro called the album "a dream come true" saying that "the album is very complete and versatile, my music is a pleassure for your ears, there is a lot of reggaeton but I have been able to find myself as an artist musically".[4]

Prior to the album release, following songs were released as singles, "Ponte Pa' Mí" featuring Myke Towers and Sky Rompiendo on April 16, 2020, "Algo Mágico" on June 27, 2020, the remix "Tattoo" with Camilo on July 11, 2020, the remix "Elegí" with Dalex and Lenny Tavárez featuring Dimelo Flow, Anuel AA, Farruko, Sech and Justin Quiles on August 28, 2020, "Enchule" on September 20, 2020, "Reloj" featuring Anuel AA on October 22, 2020, and "De Cora <3" featuring J Balvin on November 12, 2020.

Thom Jurek from AllMusic gave the album 3.5 out of 5 stars writing that "there is a pronounced and consistent vibe on Afrodisiaco; it juxtaposes elegantly layered atmospherics and innovative beats against catchy melodies set in middling tempos". He also commented on the track "Soy una Gárgola", calling the new version the "biggest surprise" of the album, writing that is "complete with an array of imaginative 21st century beats and sonics".[5]
