Descrizione


Il disco è il risultato di innumerevoli "scorribande musicali" del The Wild Bunch, il sound system composto dal nucleo dei Massive Attack che si divertiva ad improvvisare serate nella città portuale. Viene inoltre considerato il primo album di genere trip hop, nonostante questo termine dovesse essere ancora coniato e poi codificato.

La rivista Rolling Stone l'ha inserito al 395º posto della sua lista dei 500 migliori album.

Blue Lines ist das Debütalbum der englischen Trip-Hop-Band Massive Attack. Es erschien am 9. April 1991 auf dem Label Virgin Records. In Großbritannien entwickelte sich Blue Lines schnell zu einem großen kommerziellen Erfolg, wo es bis auf Platz 13 der Albencharts kam. In anderen Ländern waren die Verkaufszahlen jedoch zunächst eher gering. Inzwischen gilt Blue Lines jedoch als eines der innovativsten Alben der Pop-Geschichte sowie als Begründer des sogenannten Bristol Sounds und damit als erstes Trip-Hop-Album überhaupt. Stilistisch vermischte es Elemente aus Hip-Hop, Electronica, Soul und Reggae und erschuf damit einen damals einzigartigen Sound. Auch die Kritik nahm das Album positiv auf. So landete Blue Lines im Jahre 2003 beispielsweise auf der Liste der 500 besten Alben aller Zeiten des Rolling Stone auf Platz 395.

Blue Lines is the debut studio album by English electronic music group Massive Attack,[lower-alpha 1] released on 8 April 1991 by Wild Bunch and Virgin Records.[1] The recording was led by members Grantley "Daddy G" Marshall, Robert "3D" Del Naja, Adrian "Tricky" Thaws, and Andrew "Mushroom" Vowles, with co-production by Jonny Dollar. It also features contributions by singers Shara Nelson and Horace Andy. Generally regarded as the first "trip hop" album, Blue Lines blended elements of hip hop (such as breakbeats, sampling, and rapping) with dub, soul, reggae, and electronic music.
