L'album, che fu a lungo criticato per la sua copertina che sembrava essere promotrice dell'omosessualità, rappresenta il debutto in formazione di Ulrich Roth e Francis Buchholz.

Il disco

Il disco è ancora profondamente influenzato dalla psichedelia del primo album (sono presenti infatti due tracce incise quando nella band militava ancora Michael Schenker), ma il cambio di formazione tra le due produzioni può essere facilmente notato dall'ascolto delle sette nuove canzoni. Sono in particolare gli assoli di Ulrich Roth e il basso di Francis Buchholz a spingere la band verso il nuovo genere Hard Rock, come dimostrano il brano d'apertura Speedy's Coming e l'omonima Fly to the Rainbow, brani diventati classici da concerto per tutta la durata degli anni 70.

Fly to the Rainbow ist das zweite Studio-Album der deutschen Hard-Rock-Band Scorpions, das Ende des Jahres 1974 veröffentlicht wurde. Es ist das erste von der Band selbst produzierte Album und wurde nur mit zwei Bandmitgliedern des Vorgängeralbums Lonesome Crow (Klaus Meine und Rudolf Schenker) eingespielt. Es enthält jedoch noch Kompositionen des früheren Gitarristen Michael Schenker.

This was their first release with guitarist Uli Jon Roth and bassist Francis Buchholz, and the only one to include drummer Jürgen Rosenthal.

Fly to the Rainbow es el segundo álbum de estudio de la banda alemana de hard rock y heavy metal Scorpions, publicado en 1974 por RCA Records. En junio de 1973 el guitarrista Michael Schenker renunció para integrarse a la británica UFO, así que su hermano Rudolf invitó a Uli Jon Roth para que los ayudara con las presentaciones restantes de la gira Lonesome Crow Tour. Al poco tiempo la formación que grabó Lonesome Crow se separó y Rudolf colaboró con la banda de Roth, Dawn Road; ante la falta de un vocalista el guitarrista sugirió a Klaus Meine. A pesar de tener más músicos de Dawn Road que de Scorpions, optaron por seguir usando el nombre de este último porque ya tenía cierto reconocimiento en el país
