Brano più celebre degli MC5,[1] Kick Out the Jams[1] viene considerato una pietra miliare della musica rock[1] e sarebbe, secondo Andrea Fedeli di Ondarock, un "assalto all'arma bianca di violenza inaudita per l'epoca, che ancora oggi fa tremare le vene ai polsi: fin dal durissimo riff iniziale si viene catapultati in un clima di tensione insostenibile, che raggiunge il culmine nelle chitarre sature di effetti poste in coda al pezzo. Neanche i Blue Cheer di Vincebus Eruptum avevano osato tanto."[2]
Il titolo del brano proviene da uno slogan, ed è un invito a infrangere le barriere e liberarsi dai blocchi emotivi.[1][3]
Del singolo esiste anche una versione censurata dove il motherfuckers ("figli di puttana") viene sostituito da brothers and sisters ("fratelli e sorelle").[1]

"Kick Out the Jams" is a song by MC5, released as a single in March 1969 by Elektra Records. The album of the same name caused some controversy due to Sinclair's inflammatory liner notes and the track's rallying cry of "Kick out the jams, motherfuckers!" According to Kramer, the band recorded this as "Kick out the jams, brothers and sisters!" for the single released for radio play; Tyner claimed this was done without group consensus.[3] The edited version also appeared in some LP copies, which also withdrew Sinclair's excitable comments.
