Prodotto e diretto da Bernhard Baran (già produttore di gruppi quali Guns N' Roses, The Cure o Porcupine Tree), Live in Europe è l'intero concerto tenuto dai Flying Colors il 20 settembre 2012 presso il Poppodium 013 di Tilburg durante il tour di promozione del primo album in studio del gruppo.[2] Riguardo alla pubblicazione, il batterista Mike Portnoy ha dichiarato:[2]

«Che gruppo! Che tour! La magia che abbiamo catturato nell'album di debutto è stata ulteriormente sviluppata e cementata solo nel tour del 2012 dei Flying Colors. Ad ogni serata sul palco mi sentivo come se fossi parte di qualcosa di veramente speciale e che adorassi ogni momento di ciò.»

Oltre ai brani del primo album, eseguito nella sua interezza, nel concerto la formazione ha interpretato anche alcuni brani dei gruppi di cui i cinque componenti facevano o fanno parte, come June degli Spock's Beard (gruppo in cui militò Neal Morse) o Repentance dei Dream Theater (dei quali fece parte Portnoy).[2]


Pubblicazione


Live in Europe è stato commercializzato il 14 ottobre 2013 in Europa e il giorno seguente negli Stati Uniti d'America e nel resto del mondo sia in versione audio sia in versione video. Quella audio è stata distribuita attraverso i formati doppio CD, download digitale e in edizione speciale triplo LP (queste ultime due contenenti anche alcune bonus track),[1] mentre quella video è stata distribuita in formato DVD e BD. L'edizione video, oltre a presentare il concerto, contiene anche un documentario di 45 minuti che racchiude svariati momenti passati del gruppo durante lo svolgimento del tour.[2]

Live in Europe is the second release from prog/rock supergroup, Flying Colors. It was recorded on 20 September 2012, during the band's first tour, at the 013 in Tilburg, Netherlands.[2] It was the 12th show the band had ever played. Mascot Label Group released the album on Blu-ray, DVD, 3-LP vinyl, 2-CD, Mastered for iTunes, and MP3 digital download. The Blu-ray and DVD versions included stereo and 5.1 surround mixes,[3] and a 45-minute documentary, First Flight, edited by Randy George. Live in Europe debuted at No. 1 on the French national charts.
