Inizialmente l'etichetta non era soddisfatta del materiale registrato e decise di non pubblicare il disco in vendita.

È uscito in forma non ufficiale solo nel 1979, periodo nel quale la band si era fatta una buona reputazione grazie agli album Overkill e Bomber.

On Parole è l'unico album inciso dalla formazione originale dei Motörhead; Lemmy Kilmister al basso e alla voce, Larry Wallis alla chitarra (e alla voce per le tracce Vibrator e Fools) e Lucas Fox alla batteria (unica traccia di sempre Lost Johnny), che venne quasi subito sostituito da Phil Taylor.

La rimasterizzazione del 1997 contiene 4 alternate takes mai distribuiti prima.

On Parole is a studio recording released by British rock band Motörhead. It was intended as their first album and left unreleased at the time of its completion in 1976, and it was not released until over three years later, on 8 December 1979, after the commercial success of Overkill and Bomber that same year. It was released without the band's permission,[citation needed] and they consequently distanced themselves from it. As a result, it was not considered an official release by the band at the time and they did not want it released, as they had moved on, since then, first to Chiswick Records and then to Bronze Records.[1]
