A Different Kind of Truth ist das zwölfte und letzte Studioalbum der US-amerikanischen Rockband Van Halen, das im Februar 2012 über das Label Interscope Records veröffentlicht wurde. Das Album erreichte Platz 2 der US-Charts.[1] Es ist das erste Studioalbum mit Sänger David Lee Roth seit 1984 nach 28 Jahren.

Geschichte

Roth hatte die Band 1985 verlassen, war jedoch 2007 wieder dazugestoßen.[2] Auf A Different Kind of Truth ist auch erstmals Wolfgang Van Halen, der Sohn von Edward Van Halen und Neffe des Schlagzeugers Alex Van Halen, zu hören, der Michael Anthony 2006 ersetzt hatte. Viele der Songs auf dem Album stammen von alten Demoaufnahmen, so dass es vom Stil her an die ersten sechs Alben anknüpft.[1] Produziert wurde es von John Shanks.

Erfolg und Kritik

Die Webseite Allmusic.com vergab 4 von 5 Sternen und schrieb: „Of course, the entirety of this comeback is designed to revive the spirit of the first five or six Van Halen records, and building the album upon those old demos turns out to be a savvy move, as they not only saved promising songs, but re-oriented the band, pushing them toward their essence.“ ("Natürlich war das ganze Comeback darauf ausgelegt, den Geist der ersten fünf oder sechs Van Halen-Alben wiederaufleben zu lassen, und das Album auf Grundlage dieser alten Demoaufnahmen zu produzieren erweist sich als cleverer Schachzug, denn darunter fanden sich nicht nur vielversprechende Lieder, sondern es brachte die Band auch dazu, sich neu zu orientieren; brachte sie zu ihrem Wesenskern.")[1]

A Different Kind of Truth is the twelfth and final studio album by American rock band Van Halen. Released on February 7, 2012, by Interscope Records, this is Van Halen's only studio album on Interscope and its first full-length album of studio material with lead singer David Lee Roth since 1984. Likewise, A Different Kind of Truth was Van Halen's first studio album since 1998's Van Halen III, as well as their only studio album recorded without bassist Michael Anthony, who had played bass on all of the band's previous albums; Eddie Van Halen's son Wolfgang replaced Anthony for the album, making this his only studio album with the band. It would also be Van Halen's final studio album before Eddie's death and the group's subsequent disbandment in 2020.
