Deeper and Deeper wurde von Madonna, Shep Pettibone und Anthony Shimkin geschrieben und von Madonna gemeinsam mit Pettibone produziert. Es handelt sich um ein Dance-orientiertes Stück mit Flamenco-Einflüssen. Auch Kastagnetten werden verwendet. Inhaltlich geht es um einen Jungen, der lernt, seine Homosexualität zu akzeptieren.[2] Das Slant Magazine listete das Stück auf Platz 36 der besten Singles der 1990er-Jahre.[3]

Erfolg

Deeper and Deeper erreichte Platz sieben der Billboard Hot 100,[4] Platz sechs in Großbritannien und Platz 26 in Deutschland. Das Lied wurde erstmals bei Madonnas The Girlie Show World Tour live aufgeführt. 2004 wurde es auf der Re-Invention World Tour erneut gespielt, genauso wie 2015/2016 auf der Rebel Heart Tour.

It was written and produced by both Madonna and Shep Pettibone, with additional writing from Anthony Shimkin. In Australia and most European countries, the song was released as the album's second single on November 17, 1992; in the United States, a release was issued on December 8. It was included on Madonna's second greatest hits compilation, GHV2 (2001). A dance-pop and house song, it has disco and Philadelphia soul influences; the bridge features instrumentation from flamenco guitars and castanets. Lyrically, the song talks about sexual desire, though it has been argued that it is actually about a young man coming to terms with his homosexuality, and includes a reference to Madonna's single "Vogue" (1990).
