Descrizione

Il cofanetto raccoglie assieme tutti gli album dal vivo pubblicati dai Genesis fino ad allora tranne il doppio CD Live Over Europe 2007; la confezione tuttavia reca uno spazio vuoto appositamente destinato a quell'album, che la produzione scelse di non includere poiché uscito solo due anni prima e pertanto già acquistato separatamente da molti dei potenziali acquirenti di questo prodotto, per i quali avrebbe costituito un doppione: ciò era espressamente dichiarato in una nota allegata alla confezione e spiega anche gli anni indicati nel titolo, altrimenti inesatti dal momento che, tolto l'album in questione, il materiale cronologicamente si ferma al 1993.

A differenza dei precedenti cofanetti della stessa serie, questo non include versioni SACD degli album e i DVD non contengono interviste al gruppo né altro materiale video, bensì solo missaggi in formato audio surround 5.1 a cura di Nick Davis, e soltanto di tre album su cinque. Lo stesso Davis nel libretto allegato spiega l'assenza dei remix degli alri due, Three Sides Live e The Way We Walk, con il fatto che i due film omonimi sarebbero usciti con quello stesso formato audio nel successivo e ultimo box set della serie: The Movie Box 1981-2007, nel caso di Three Sides Live anche con le tracce audio integrali dei brani parzialmente o totalmente assenti dal film (con l'unica eccezione del medley: it/Watcher of the Skies proveniente dal tour di: A Trick of the Tail del 1976).

Ciascun album presenta qualche differenza rispetto alle versioni reperibili fino a quel momento:

• Genesis Live (1973) contiene, solo in questa edizione, alcune bonus track registrate nel 1975 durante il tour di The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway;
• Seconds Out (1977) è confezionato, esclusivamente per questa edizione, in formato libretto con copertina in cartone rigido;
• Three Sides Live (1982) consiste nella versione pubblicata all'epoca nel solo Regno Unito, contenente altri tre brani dal vivo in luogo delle tracce in studio presenti sulla quarta facciata del doppio long playing uscito nel resto del mondo, le quali si trovano invece nel cofanetto Genesis 1976-1982 della stessa serie;
• The Way We Walk, rispetto ai due CD pubblicati separatamente nel 1992 e 1993, presenta le tracce in un ordine differente, che ricalca quello del film-concerto The Way We Walk - Live in Concert (con l'aggiunta quindi del brano: Turn It on Again) e sposta in coda tre brani tratti dall'Invisible Touch Tour del 1986-87, presenti nel CD del 1992 ma non nel film.[1]

Un quinto CD-DVD dal titolo: Extra Tracks — Live at the Rainbow 1973 raccoglie brani registrati dal vivo al Rainbow Theatre di Londra il 20 ottobre 1973 durante la tournée europea legata all'album Selling England by the Pound. Per limiti di spazio del formato CD, i due brani Watcher of the Skies e The Musical Box – tratti dal medesimo concerto – compaiono soltanto nel DVD.

Genesis Live 1973–2007 is a box set by Genesis which includes all of their live albums except Live over Europe 2007. Genesis Live and its bonus tracks, Seconds Out, and Live at the Rainbow 1973 all include bonus DVDs which feature their respective albums in 5.1 Surround Sound. Three Sides Live and The Way We Walk are included on stereo CDs only. Unlike previous Genesis box sets, this box set does not have any version which includes SACDs. Although Live Over Europe 2007 was originally slated for inclusion, producer Nick Davis persuaded the band's management to exclude the album from the box set after hearing from a number of fans that they preferred not to buy the album again so soon after its original 2007 release.
