Pubblicata sul 45 giri Rip It Up/Ready Teddy nel giugno 1956[1], raggiunse la prima posizione della classifica R&B di Billboard ed il diciassettesimo sulla Hot 100[2]. Pochissimo tempo, il 6 agosto dello stesso anno, uscì anche la versione di Bill Haley & His Comets[1], che arrivò alla 25ª posizione di Billboard Hot 100[3].

Il 26 gennaio 1969, durante le Get Back sessions, i Beatles eseguirono un medley di vecchi brani rock 'n' roll; tra i tanti, compaiono Great Balls of Fire, Twist and Shout e You've Really Got a Hold on Me. Dalla sessions, vennero estratti tre brani (Rip It Up, Shake, Rattle and Roll di Big Joe Turner e Blue Suede Shoes di Carl Perkins), che vennero uniti in un medley e pubblicati sull'Anthology 3 del 1996[4].

"Rip It Up" is a rock and roll song written by Robert Blackwell and John Marascalco. In June 1956, Specialty Records released it as a single by Little Richard with "Ready Teddy" as the B-side. The song reached the top position on the Billboard Rhythm & Blues Records chart as well as number 17 on the magazine's broader Billboard Hot 100.[1] The version peaked at number 30 in the UK Singles Chart.[2]
