Descrizione


È l'album che vede l'importante avvicendamento al microfono di Blaze Bayley al posto di Bruce Dickinson. In merito al titolo dell'album il bassista Steve Harris ha dichiarato che, ogni volta che sta per essere fatto un disco del gruppo, il titolo è una delle ultime cose ad essere scelta, restando, quasi fino alla fine, il fattore "x", l'incognita (The X Factor). Considerando che questo risultava essere il decimo album e che regnava una grande incertezza legata al debutto di Bayley fu deciso di usare l'incognita.

Dopo l'album Fear of the Dark, gli Iron Maiden proseguono la saga con un album che in molte analogie rimanda a Piece of Mind: come per quello storico album, anche in questo lavoro il titolo non proviene da nessuno dei brani inseriti.

La copertina dell'album mostra le fasi del processo di lobotomizzazione subita da Eddie: la mascotte del gruppo è immobilizzata sul letto di una sala operatoria nel momento in cui la calotta cranica viene rimossa e lascia scoperto il cervello. Tale scena che rimanda alla copertina di Piece of Mind dove Eddie era già stato ricucito e legato.

The X Factor (engl. für: „Das gewisse Etwas“) ist das zehnte Studioalbum der britischen Heavy-Metal-Band Iron Maiden. Es kam im August 1995 auf den Markt und wurde von Steve Harris produziert. Es war das erste Album mit dem neuen Sänger Blaze Bayley.

The X Factor is the tenth studio album by English heavy metal band Iron Maiden, released on 2 October 1995 through EMI Records.[2] CMC International released the album in North America. It is the first of two albums by the band to include Blaze Bayley, formerly of Wolfsbane, as vocalist, replacing Bruce Dickinson who left the band following their previous tour to pursue a solo career. It also saw the departure of the band's longtime producer Martin Birch, who retired shortly after the release of their previous album, Fear of the Dark (1992). The album takes a darker tone than the band's first nine releases, due to the lyrics being based on personal issues surrounding Steve Harris at the time, who was in the midst of a divorce.[3] This is reflected in the cover artwork, which graphically depicts the band's mascot, Eddie, being vivisected by a machine.[4]
